No, you’re not misreading anything. Kent State University’s Pan-African Studies Department put on a theatrical production of Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning play “The Mountaintop” and cast a white actor as Dr. Martin Luther King. Director Michael Oatman explained, “Dr. King is not just a prominent African American, he’s a prominent American. Why can’t an American play another prominent American?”
